Reflexology
What is Reflexology
?
 |
Reflexology is
a complementary therapy that involves using the hands and
fingers to apply pressure to reflex areas of the feet
to effect positive physical change in other parts of the body.
It is rooted in the belief that different parts of the feet
represent various parts of the body and the way it works.
By mapping the
body on to the feet reflexologist manipulate
|
and apply pressure to reduce stress
on the body's organs, glands, and other body parts and systems. Reflexology
is used to treat a wide variety of ailments and conditions.
If you are looking for Reflexology treatment
on the northside of Dublin, particularly in the Artane, Clontarf,
Killester, Raheny and Howth Road areas then the health plex is perfect
for you.
What Conditions Does
Reflexology Treat ?
Reflexology can treat
nearly all health problems. Even though all reflex areas may be
massaged, the reflexologist pays particular attention to the relevant
problem area. For example, when the therapist is treating for migraines,
strokes, and multiple sclerosis, he / she will apply pressure to
the reflex point in the foot or hand that relates to the head and
other connecting areas.
Reflexology is not suitable
for difficulties such as broken bones but if it is used regularly
Reflexology will enhance other treatments that you are receiving
by keeping the circulation stimulated and the lymphatic system active.
In this way Reflexology truly is a complementary therapy.
Reflexology is particularly
useful in treating; stress, Migraine, Sinus problems, Back problems,
Breathing difficulties, hormone imbalance, digestive disorders,
and poor circulation.
What Happens When
You Visit a Reflexologist ?
Reflexology treatments
may take up to one hour and perhaps more depending on the condition
being treated. For best results six weekly sessions are usually
recommended. Your reflexologist will spend your initial consultation
making a detailed record of your medical history. Clients must remove
their shoes and socks and sit on a treatment couch or special treatment
chair. The reflexologist will note the general appearance of your
foot and will check for any lesions or corns that may not be able
to receive pressure.
Reflexology treatment employs light,
but firm, compression massage to the soles and upper parts of your
feet. Reflex points are very small so the reflexologist must be
very accurate and precise. In some cases there may be a significant
reaction to the first Reflexology treatment including increased
bowel movements, cold or flu-like symptoms or even skin reactions.
Clients should not be put off by this as it is a very healthy sign
which signifies that the reflexologist has promoted the release
of harmful toxins from the body. At times during treatment some
areas of the foot may feel somewhat tender and these will correlate
with the problem areas in other parts of the body. If your therapist
deems it necessary he / she may show you how to treat certain conditions
at home by showing you the exact area of the foot to press.
Finally please don't worry if you
have feet that are a bit ticklish, Reflexology treatment is very
precise and quite firm.
