Introduction to Yoga
 |
Yoga comes from the Sanskrit
word "Yuj" meaning to yoke or to join. This
suggests a joining of all the aspects of the individual, including
the body, the mind and the soul, to achieve a happy, balanced
and meaningful life. In the Asian subcontinent of India, Yoga
is deemed to be one of the six branches of classical philosophy
and is constantly referred to in the Vedas - the old Indian
writings and amongst the oldest texts in existence. Indeed
the origins of Yoga are thought
|
to be even older than that, originating
from the spoken traditions of Yogis, where the knowledge of Yoga was
passed from the Guru or spiritual teacher - to Sisya or spiritual
student.
